Most of my daily work happens on a screen. Making art gives me a reason to slow down, work with my hands, and follow an idea without a client brief attached. These days, much of that work takes the form of linocut prints, along with drawing, painting, and whatever else catches my interest.
My first client was my grandmother, Nan. When I was about six, she asked me to draw a cardinal. She proudly displayed it in her kitchen, and more than 40 years later, my parents still have it hanging in their family room.
In school, I doodled during class when I should have been taking notes. I loved one-point and two-point perspective because they let me create anything from city streets to science-fiction worlds. I was voted Most Artistic in eighth grade and again during my senior year.
I later earned a BFA in Media Arts from Edinboro University and returned there as an adjunct professor, teaching design and web classes. Art has stayed with me through every stage of my life, even when the tools, subjects, and reasons for making it have changed.
